INTRODUCTION

FINAL PROJECT

For our final project, we had to develop a font that was meant to solve a problem or that was meant to be part of a solution in your area of interest, might be graphic design, animation, new media or entertainment design or any other related area not necessarily reflecting your specialization or exploring the use of a typeface in your area of interest, understanding your existing relationship, identifying areas that might be impaired.

I did a proposal for my ideas, this is the final proposal that can be work, and i need to decide one to work on.

I choose CALL OF DUTY to work on, because i really like the game but now i don't have time to play it so i want to do it.

The original font of CALL OF DUTY:

First, i sketch it out, i design the font based on the logo of the game, i use the outline and the gap of the logo.

I also design the fonts based on some references:

Fig 1.4 references 3

Here are the sketches that i draw on graph papers:

After that, i digitize it on AI and shows Mr Vinod and Mr Shamsul, they said that the top three is ok and fine with the style but i need to refind more because of the different size of strokes and some of the alphabet are not balance and not consistent.

Mr Vinod chooses the first one, so i continue doing the rest of the letters.I sketch the letters on the graph papers first:

After that, i then digitize it on AI and adjust the size of each fonts to make them consistent.

Then, i send it to Mr Vinod by using messenger, he told me that the B,L,W are the problem and i need to fix it

After that, we need to put the font that we designed into font lab to create a typeface

For the application, i created some posters and put the font back with to the logo and i also create the title page and the also the loading page for the game. Here are the outcomes of it:

Mr Vinod and Mr Shamsul say i did a good job but need to make all these images into the same color scheme,if i choose one color then need to make all in the same color. Then, i chose black and white. Here is the final outcome.

FEEDBACK

Week 11 (04.11.19)
Mr Vinod said that the "call of duty" and "egg" can work, so i need to decide one. I choose "call of duty " to work on and after i show him some sketches Mr Vinod said is ok but not there yet i need to study more on the logo

Week 12 (11.11.19)
Three of my font design is fine and the second one is interesting, but i need to refind more because i need to maintain all the size of the stroke is the same.

Online feedback: Glyphs L, W and B are problems. W too wide. B too bulky. L the bottom stroke too long. Your Q is excellent.

Week 13 (18.11.19)
Mr Vinod and Mr Shamsul said i did a good job and just need to make all the application into the same color scheme.

REFLECTION

Experience

Week 11 (04.11.19)
Creating our own typeface is not easy, we need to study a lot and also for my case, i need to study for the both logo to come out fonts that have the characteristic of the logo.

Week 12 (11.11.19)
I stuck after letters A,B,C,D,L,O and F. I thought it will be easy after i do these letters, i face many problems, i redraw and redesign many times on graph papers untill i get the right one, especially the letter H,K,G and Q.

Observation

Week 11 (04.11.19)
I juz realize that we can use the experimental method to do our final project, for example my friend Kelly, her experiment is very cool, i wonder how she figures that idea out, everyone is doing different types of fonts, i can't wait to see the final result!

Week 12 (11.11.19)
It is hard to maintain all the stroke is same, i spend lots of time on it, because if i need to adjust one letter i need to adjust all others 35 letters. After that i found a more easier way to check is mine fonts all consistent or not, the way is using the same rectangle to check all my letters.

Finding

Week 11 (04.11.19)
I found that many people are doing the letters with their country's own letter (language) but it is a good idea because through these we can learn about their country letters, it is good for foreigners like us.

Week 12 (11.11.19)
I thought i can finish my final project quickly so that i can work on others module's project, but....i failed to finish it in this week, cause i'm struggling about the design of the fonts, i bring my graph papers to campus everyday and looking for inspiration.

What makes a good typeface

Fig 3.0 What makes a good typeface

It is hard to create a good typeface for beginners, while this article that I found might helps a lot for us to advance our skill.

Here is some main points that we must be clear while creating a typeface.

First of all a Consistent Design, a well-designed typeface will have consistent design characteristics throughout the entire character set, which includes numerals, punctuation, and some symbols.
Next, Spacing. The letterspacing of a font is often overlooked by type users as an important aspect of its overall design and appearance; it is also misunderstood by many untrained or novice type makers, aka typeface designers.

Another important thing that we have to know is the Kerning of typeface.Kerning (or kern pairs) refers to the addition or reduction of the spacing between two glyphs. These values are (or should be) built into a font by the designer or foundry

Besides, Legibility refers to the ease with which the characters, words, and overall text can be read. It is of primary importance in text typefaces, as they are intended for smaller sizes and for longer text settings.
Last but not least, the Color and Texture. A well-spaced and designed typeface – particularly a text design where legibility is of the essence – should have even color and texture. This is the result of the successful integration of all of the characteristics described above.
