Project 2 : A Digital Triptych

For this project, Mr Hafiz gave us five song which are:

• The way you look tonight
• Come fly with me
• Girl from Ipanema
• New York, New York
• Fly me to the moon

He said that, every song have its own little story, our "mission" is try to figure the storyline out, sketch and digitize in Illustrator and also animate it. We supposed to create three artworks base on the chosen song, we can make whatever we like.

After listening to five songs, and analysis the lyrics, I choose the song "Girl from Ipanema".It was because it give me lots of imagination and i come out many ideas from this song.

After that, i started to brainstorming to come out good sketches. I draw our some sketches base on the particular lyrics which is :

• For the first "moment": But each day, when she walks to the sea.She looks straight ahead, not at him
• The second image: When she walks, she's like a samba
• The third "moment": And when she passes, each one she passes goes

First, for the mood board, i research on some walking movement, some girl side face and also the samba illustration. Which also the main things i want to work on

For the concept board, I find out the suitable color scheme and some drawing as references

This is the progress for the first moment, I draw out the side face first, and then the hair and eyebrows, the beach background and lastly the words and the flowers. For the sixth image, Mr. Hafiz asked me to change the words and make them some in front of the clouds some behind the clouds.

For the second artwork, I struggle a lot of what color is better and suit the first image. I make three different colors and try to combine them, finally come out with some color that I really like and suit the first work.

For the third moment, i face the same problem, I am stuck by the color of the background. The red background (7th image) seem both the background and dress blend too well, can't see the girl clearly while the ( 8th image) have a contrast between both elements so we can clearly see the girl is the main point of the work. But, the yellow background seem not suitable for the theme so i mix both background together.
